VG x Pro Beach Hockey
Only in Orange County could a movie night feel like a roller hockey tailgate. The Pro Beach Hockey documentary premiere at The Frida Cinema brought out everyone from PBH players, longtime diehards, and people who just love anything loud, fast, and slightly unhinged.
If you never saw Pro Beach Hockey in its prime, just picture roller hockey tossed onto the beach with ramps, loud gear, and almost no rules. The film captured all of it, the improv, the chaos, the characters and reminded everyone why this moment in hockey history still hits so hard.
The lobby felt like a reunion. Fans showed up swapping memories, pointing at old jerseys, and laughing about games that looked more like stunts than organized hockey. You could feel how much this era meant to people who were lucky enough to live it.
After the credits rolled, no one wanted to leave. Groups hung around reliving the past, debating who had the wildest style, and celebrating a league that bent every rule and somehow made it work. That’s what made the night special: the community showed up not just to watch, but to remember.
Huge thanks to The Frida Cinema, the filmmakers, and everyone who came out. Pro Beach Hockey might have burned fast, but nights like this prove the spark is still there. Here’s to keeping the weird, wild corners of hockey alive.
