K9 Spike was tragically killed in the line of duty while courageously assisting officers in the apprehension of a fleeing suspect. On the evening of the incident, officers conducted a traffic stop near Buena Vista Street and the northbound Interstate 5 on-ramp when a passenger fled on foot. K9 Spike was deployed to locate the suspect within a nearby residential neighborhood.
Upon locating the suspect, K9 Spike was met with gunfire and was struck by multiple rounds. Despite immediate efforts to save him, Spike succumbed to his injuries after being transported to an emergency veterinarian.
The suspect was later located following an extensive search. After firing at officers and striking patrol vehicles, the suspect was fatally wounded during an officer-involved shooting.
K9 Spike faithfully served the Burbank Police Department for 21 months, standing watch with courage, loyalty, and unwavering devotion. His sacrifice will never be forgotten, and his legacy will live on in the department and community he so bravely protected.

About the Proceeds:
In honor of K-9 Spike, the Burbank Police Department K-9 Unit continues to serve and protect our community with courage and dedication. Following the tragic loss of K-9 Spike, the department’s K-9 Unit is accepting donations to support its ongoing mission.
Donations are primarily accepted through the Burbank Police Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Contributions directly support essential K-9 needs, including ballistic vests, training, medical care, and equipment.
